  • Althea Cynewski Memorial Scholarship

In establishing the Althea Cynewski Memorial Scholarship, we hope that the yearly recipient will find the same joy and satisfaction in his/her career as Althea did in every day of hers. Preference will be given to students that attended CES.

Each year a graduating AHS senior majoring in Elementary Education or Nursing will receive this award. A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded based on achievement and character, with the hopes of continuing to honor Althea’s legacy until at least 2025, as that class includes the last kindergarten students taught by Althea.

Althea grew up in Amesbury and graduated with the AHS Class of 1982. After earning her degree in Elementary Education from Fitchburg State College, Althea enjoyed many years of teaching kindergarten and first grade at the Cashman Elementary School, and watching her students learn and grow was a great reward for her.

  • Kim Gilbert Owen Scholarship

Kim Gilbert Owen Memorial Scholarship Fund

By establishing the Kim Gilbert Owen Memorial Scholarship, we hope that the recipient will actively pursue their interests in science and nature with the same passion that Kim had all her life. We would like the recipient of this scholarship to be entering into some type of animal or environmental studies.

Kim Gilbert Owen was raised in Amesbury and Merrimac and attended the Pentucket school system, graduating in 2002. She attended The University of New England and Granite State College, earning a degree in Biopsychology. She also attended the New Hampshire Community Technical College, earning a degree in Veterinary Technology.

Her family owns and operates R. E. Kimball Company in Amesbury where she chose to work with her twin sister and mother after earning her degrees. She was also very active in the Amesbury Playhouse as an actress.

Kim led a life full of compassion and love. She had a zest for life, and she valued her family dearly. Kim was fascinated by nature, and animal science, and did her best to instill these values in her two children. We hope that the recipient of this scholarship shares these values.
