SEA Fund Flatbreads Fundraiser Sept. 28th

The AHS Class of 1960 invites you to join them at the Flatbread’s in Amesbury for an evening of great food, friendship and fundraising! Eat in or take out on Tuesday evening, September 28th, and a portion of the proceeds from each pizza sold will benefit the SEA Fund, which is supported though generous donations from members of this class.

The primary objective of this fund is to support activities that enrich the educational experiences of all AHS students. The intention is to underwrite participation fees for activities and programs for students who would be denied these opportunities without financial assistance. The fund supports a broad range of developmental activities.

2010 Jeffrey Donovan Scholarship Winner

AHS Senior Rebecca Donohue won this year’s $10,000.00 Jeffrey Donovan Scholarship for the Arts. The scholarship was awarded at the Baccalaureate ceremony recently held at for all graduating senors.

Ms. Donohue is attending the New Hampshire Institute of Art in Manchester, NH this fall.

On May 7th, the Amesbury Educational Foundation, Inc. (AEFI) held its 8th Annual Hall of Honor (HOH). On that day we honored U.S. Navy Commander Glen Bourque (AHS Class of 1980), Karin Martin, Ph.D. (AHS Class of 1984), and Julia Phelps, Ed.D. (Friend of Amesbury Schools) and awarded over $21,000 in grants to Amesbury teachers! It is difficult to express the enormous gratitude we feel for our loyal friends and partners. You support AEFI each and every year by attending our events and donating money to our passion of enriching the education of the public school children in Amesbury. Planning and carrying out a successful event which includes 200 guests for dinner, 3 honorees and many grant awards requires much time and effort! Bowlathon benefits Jordan Shay Scholarship

On April 27, twenty five teams of bowlers came together for an evening of fun and purpose. All were there to help raise funds for the Jordan M Shay Memorial Scholarship Fund. They and their friends bowled, bought raffle tickets and bid on silent auction items. When the evening was over close to $13,000 was raised. Jordan was an extraordinary young man who lost his life in service to his country in Iraq. It was Jordan’s wish that should something happen to him that a scholarship be started in his name to benefit a student wishing to go on to college to become a firefighter, a police officer or any other vocation that attempted to make the world a better place. Jordan’s family, fiancé, and friends could never find the words to express what this evening meant to them. They would like to thank the following teams and their sponsors: The Newburyport Five Cent Savings Bank, The Institution for Savings, The Provident Bank, The Amesbury Rotary Club, The Amesbury Educational Foundation, Stone Ridge Properties, ReMax on the River (most funds raised), Keiver Willard, Amesbury Fire Department, Salisbury Fire Department, Amesbury Police, Healey, Deshaies, Gagliardi and Woelfel, Wilson Team (2 teams) , The Amesbury High School, Salon Aniu, The Shay Team, The Misfits, The Castaways, The Chandonnet Team, The Shockey Team, Dogs Gone Bad, and last but not least the Blond Bombers! There were also many donations for the silent auction as well as themed gift baskets for the raffle prizes. Those donors include Paws Boutique, Parke Place, Barking Dog, Advantage Property Management, Bruce Arlington, Webb Heintzelmann Golf Academy at Turner Hill, North Eastern Scale Lumber, Dawn Palmer, Neat and Sweet Cleaning and Mark Crocker Landscaping Service. There were even Red Sox Yankees tickets to be raffled off. The event was so successful that plans are already underway for next year’s tournament. A very special thank you needs to go out to Mike Leo of Leo’s Superbowl. He and his staff were amazing. Again thanks to all who donated and bowled. It means so much to those who loved Jordan to know his legacy will live on for years to come.

AEFI is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2010 Hall of Honor awards:

Honorees are selected based upon extraordinary fidelity, honor and service to Amesbury Public Schools, their community, their profession, or the United States. The honorees will be featured guests at the 8th annual Hall of Honor ceremony on Friday, May 7th at 6pm at St. Joseph’s Hall, 5 Sparhawk Street in Amesbury. Come celebrate the induction of three outstanding individuals. We will also be unveiling the 2010 grant awards to teachers for the 2010/2011 school year.

Jeffrey Donovan donates golf winnings to AEFI

Jeffrey Donovan wins golf tournament and donates another $11,000 to AEFI.

”Burn Notice” star, Amesbury High School alum, black belt, and jack-of-all-trades Jeffrey Donovan revealed another talent when he and actor Andy Garcia won a recent celebrity challenge portion of the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am golf tourney.

Donovan’s 13-foot birdie putt won the first hole, which had a purse of $3,000, and the pair dominated the rest of the course. Donovan donated $11,000, his share of the $22,000 winner’s share to the Amesbury Educational Foundation Inc.

Give your favorite teacher, school administrator or staff member an A+, and help AEFI raise funds for all of our important programs.

Between April 1 and June 30, we will be accepting your nominations. Donations of any amount are accepted as the nomination “fee.” Get together with your friends or family and shine the light on the educators you feel are worthy of special attention.
